City Tram Extension

Client
SMEC for theDepartment for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (2017 – 2018)

GTP Role
The City Tram Extension was an $80 million State Government funded project adding a 1km tram-line extension to the existing tramline network, along North Terrace.  We were engaged to provide client-side services for the Department, focussing on management of communications and engagement with community members and stakeholder organisations.   We developed a comprehensive community engagement strategy in recognition of the high-profile location of the project on North Terrace, Adelaide’s education, culture and festival precinct. We worked with the construction contractors to facilitate stakeholder briefing sessions, door knocking and a number of surveys to assist in the dissemination of information to interested community members. We also provided liaison channels between the community and the design team to identify risks and where possible, to find mitigation strategies that work for both the design team as well as the community.

Outcome
Our critical coordination role ensured maximum involvement from the City of Adelaide and key institutions such as Parliament House, SA Museum, Art Gallery of SA, Adelaide University and the University of SA, with numerous major businesses, throughout the project delivery.
