O-Bahn City Access

McConnell Dowell for the Department for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (2015 – 2018)

GTP Role
The O-Bahn City Access project was allocated $160 million of State Government funding to improve travel times and reliability to users of the O-Bahn, as well as contribute to the reduction of traffic congestion and delays within the inner city.We developed a comprehensive community engagement strategy focusing on activities to connect with the local community within this high- profile recreation, festival and tourism precinct in the East End of Adelaide. Involving the community along the journey, we facilitated community information sessions, public events, door knocking and surveys to assist in two way information exchange with the community throughout the project. We also provided liaison between the community and the design team to identify risks and to find design solutions that met the design objectives of the project, as well as the community priorities for the Adelaide Park Lands.

Our intensive engagement activities early in the design phase assisted in communicating the project objectives and key outcomes to be delivered, which assisted in building greater community acceptance of the project. The success of our major opening event, with more than 6,000 people visiting the new O-Bahn tunnel under the Park Lands, reflected the commitment of our engagement team to involving the people of Adelaide in its delivery.
